The juiciest coronation drama

 The juiciest coronation drama

There have been many coronation dramas throughout history, but one of the juiciest and most memorable ones took place during the coronation of King Edward VII of England in 1902.

At the time, King Edward VII was known for his numerous affairs and scandalous behavior. His mistress, Alice Keppel, was in attendance at the coronation and caused quite a stir. She was dressed in a stunning gown and sat in a prominent position, much to the dismay of the royal family.

But the drama didn't stop there. The Archbishop of Canterbury, who was officiating the coronation, accidentally anointed the king's forehead with oil instead of his hands, causing a commotion among the attendees.

To add to the chaos, the Duke of Connaught, who was carrying the king's sword during the ceremony, stumbled and nearly dropped it, leading many to believe it was a bad omen for the new king's reign.

Despite all the drama, the coronation of King Edward VII was a success, and he went on to reign for nine years before his death in 1910. But the scandalous events of that day continue to be remembered and discussed to this day.
